He was a fearless warrior and was known to have held India above all else until his last breath. He was born in Akbarpur, India on 19 July 1827 and died 8 April 1857. Pandey is also known for spreading the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857, also known as the First Indian War of Independence, throughout the country.

On the anniversary of his death, the Ministry of Culture shared a video about his life. The video starts with his date of birth to his life and death struggles. He was one of the few freedom fighters who had the courage to disobey British officers and fight for justice.

He rebelled against the East India Company for introducing animal fat casings for offending the religious sensibilities of the soldiers.

This rebel movement reached other parts of India and caused mass uprisings against colonial rulers. Ordinary people also come out and oppose anti-India laws.

Due to this great mass movement, the British had to recognize the problem and have issued a new rule with the Government of India Act of 1858.

This movement of protest and rebellion came to be known as the Sepai Rebellion of 1857, also known as the First War of Independence. 

He attacked two British officers on 29 March 1857. He was then hanged in Barackpur on 8 April 1857. He was 29 years old when he was executed.
